Even in 2018, there are people making the mistake of what private proxies to use. Especially when it comes to special use ones, such as social media proxies. Thus, we decided to do this little recap of what are social media proxies, why you need them for your marketing and how to actually use them in your marketing campaigns.

You can consider this article as part of a knowledge base one. And every time you feel there is something you do not understand, you can go back to it and refer it as a reference. This is why we are going to start this article with the difference between private proxies and social media proxies. And then we will continue with why you need proxies and how to use them. So let’s start with the first thing first.

Private proxies vs social media proxies

The first thing you need to know is that not all proxies are built the same. Actually, they are almost identical in appearance, but tremendously different in what you can do with them.

So what are social media proxies? These are special use private proxies with virgin IPs. In other words, their IPs are newly allocated to be used on a social media platform. This is why they are called virgin IPs. Nobody used these IPs before to connect to a social network.

Therefore, the main difference between a private proxy and a social media proxy is not on the surface. But it is actually how and where you can use the proxy. So, this difference is reflected in how you can use these IPs and where you are allowed to connect without interferences or limits.

Why do you need social media proxies

The main reason for using social media proxies is the ability to connect through several IPs, several accounts managed from the same server. For example, with 20 social media proxies, you get 20 IPs that allow you to connect 20 accounts and manage them from the same server or computer. This reason is a so-called plain vanilla. It demonstrates how and why you need social media proxies when using multiple accounts.

However, the underlying reasons are much more complex. For example, one reason is account banning. A risk that can be mitigated with the help of social media proxies. Because each account will connect to a social network through its own IP. Thus, in the unlikely event of one account being flagged as spam, your other 19 accounts (from the example above) will be protected. And your marketing campaign could continue unhindered.

Can you do marketing without proxies

Everything is possible on the Internet, even running marketing campaigns without social media proxies. However, while you can do this, there are certain limits and risks you could face if you do not use these proxies.

For example, if you are running several accounts from a single IP, if one of them gets blocked, you risk all your other accounts to be blocked by the social network.

So the general recommendation is to quantify the risks and gains of automating accounts without proxies. And then consider if the risks outweigh the gains and to buy social media proxies.

Social media proxies setup

As we already saw above, you need private proxies for social media. Especially if you plan on developing and managing several accounts at the same time, from the same server, identified with a particular IP. So, once you bought your proxies, there are two ways in which you can use them.

First, you can use your proxies and manage your accounts manually. You can develop such a setup almost for free. All you need is an Internet browser that supports multiple proxies at the same time. A browser like Mozilla Firefox. And for ease of use, you can use a plugin as Foxy Proxy, which will allow you to switch between your proxies with the press of a single button.

Second, if you are running a lot of accounts from the same IP and you need to automate them, you can use a social media automation tool such as FollowLiker. This tool allows you to automate the behavior of as many accounts as you need. And at the same time connect each account through an individual social media proxy. There are other social media automation tools as well, but this is the best one when it comes to automating accounts and connecting through multiple proxies.

Accounts to social media proxy ratio

The last aspect you must consider is the number of accounts per proxy. This ratio should always be kept at 1 to 1. So for each social media proxy, you need to connect only one account. In this way, you will protect each individual account from the actions inflicted on your other accounts.
